Gage Paul Holzum, age 16, of Rapelje, Montana, was called home to be with God on March 3,2025. Gage was born on December 19, 2008, in Modesto, California, to Tyler and Jennifer Holzum and later became big brother to Ty. Gage attended school in Oakdale until the age of 14, at which point his family moved to Rapelie, Montana. Gage was a member of the Northern California Junior Rodeo Association (NCJRA) where he won numerous buckles and saddles throughout his time as a member.
Gage loved every part of the cowboy way from roping, ranching, and branding calves to taking exceptional care of his horses. Their manes were always neatly braided, and his tack was kept clean and well-maintained. He roped the dummy every night, perfecting his skills and studying every detail of the mechanics of roping.
Beyond his skill, Gage was known for his generous spirit. He was a kind-hearted young man who would go out of his way to help kids who struggled, offering guidance, encouragement, and friendship.
This year, the NCJRA is proud to honor his memory by presenting The Heart of a Horseman Award to one contestant who embodies Gage’s dedication, sportsmanship, and kindness chosen by the votes of their peers.
Gage's passion and dedication to the sport of roping left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him. His legacy will forever live on in the rodeo community.
Voting will take place on August 16 & 17 in the Clubhouse or you can use the link below. All contestants are encouraged to come and vote for an NCJRA cowboy or cowgirl they feel truly embodies Gage’s dedication to rodeo, their horses, sportsmanship, and kindness.
Votes will be tallied, and the winner will be announced at the NCJRA Finals during the Awards Presentation.
